I’m in my early 20s and trying to plan my next 5–10 years. I’m seriously considering enlisting (not sure which branch yet), but my long-term goal is business—either working my way into operations/project management or eventually starting something small on my own.
I keep hearing that military service builds “leadership and discipline,” but that’s pretty vague. What are the specific ways military experience actually translates into a business career? I’m thinking about skills (management, logistics, planning), credibility on a resume, networking, and even benefits like education. Also, are there MOS/rates that are better for business than others, or is it mostly about how you use the experience afterward?
Not looking for a sales pitch—just realistic pros/cons and what you wish you knew before you joined if your goal was business later.
