I’ve been trying to take rucking more seriously for overall military fitness and maybe a future selection-style event. Right now I’m doing 1–2 rucks a week, usually 4–8 miles on mixed terrain. I’m stuck around a 15:30–16:30 min/mile pace with a 35 lb pack, and when I push harder my feet get hot spots and my lower back tightens up.
I’m not looking for anything extreme or reckless, just a realistic way to get faster and feel better under load. What should I change first: conditioning, strength, technique, or gear? Any pacing strategies, workouts, and pack setup tips that actually work would be appreciated.
