I’m looking at enlisting and I’m realistic that I’m probably not going to be an operator in a special forces unit. But I’m really interested in the missions and the culture of that community.
If I go in as support (comms, intel, logistics, mechanic, medic, or something similar), is it actually possible to work closely with special forces teams? Or is it more like you’re stuck at a regular unit far away and only see them on paper?
I’m trying to figure out which support jobs most often get attached to SOF, what the day-to-day looks like, and whether it’s something you can plan for or if it’s mostly luck/timing. Any advice from people who’ve seen it would help.
