I keep seeing clips from Ukraine and other conflicts where tanks get hit by drones or top-attack missiles and it makes it look like armor is just a rolling coffin now. But then I also read that tanks are still essential for breaking through, supporting infantry, and holding ground.
I’m not in the military—just trying to understand how commanders actually see this in 2026. Are tanks becoming obsolete, or is it more that the way they’re used has to change (more EW, APS, infantry screens, better recon)? If you had to bet on the next 10–20 years, do main battle tanks stay central or get replaced by something else?
