I’m trying to decide if a premium plate carrier is actually worth paying for, or if it’s mostly brand hype. I’m not military—just a regular guy who does some range training, light classes, and occasional hikes in kit. Right now I have a basic carrier that “works,” but it shifts a bit when I move fast, the shoulder straps dig in, and the cummerbund feels flimsy with loaded mags.
I’m looking at higher-end options (the usual well-known brands) and the price jump is huge once you add pouches and a decent placard setup. For people who’ve actually worn these hard: what do you *really* gain when you go from a budget carrier to a premium one? Comfort? Durability? Better stitching/materials? More stable with plates?
Also, is there a point where it makes more sense to spend on plates/fitment/training rather than the carrier itself? I’d love some practical guidance before I drop a lot of money.
