I’m looking at upgrading my combat shirt and I’m torn between a basic surplus/entry-level one and a “premium” option (Crye, Arc’teryx LEAF-level pricing, etc.). I train a couple weekends a month (range days, some land nav, light field stuff), and I’ve noticed my cheaper shirt gets hot under a plate carrier, pills fast, and the collar/zip area feels rough. But I’m also not deployed, so I’m wondering if the premium stuff is actually better in real use or if it’s mostly branding and marginal gains.
What I care about most: comfort under armor, durability of the sleeves/shoulders, how the fabric handles sweat, and whether it stays decent after lots of washes. If you think premium is worth it, what features make the difference? If not, what price range is the sweet spot?
