I’m trying to decide if I should spend more on “premium” boots or just grab something mid-range. I’m not active duty, but I do a lot of hiking/rucking (20–35 lb), some range days, and I’m on my feet for work. My cheaper boots usually start feeling sloppy after a few months (heel slip, soles flatten, seams start to look rough), but dropping $250–$400 on boots feels hard to justify if the gain is mostly branding.
What I care about is comfort over long days, not getting hot spots, traction in wet grass/mud, and boots that don’t fall apart. I’m fine paying extra if it actually saves money over time or prevents constant replacement. For people who’ve used both: are premium boots really worth it, and what should I look for (materials, construction, resoling, warranty) to tell quality from hype?
