I’m trying to decide if premium body armor is actually worth paying extra for, or if mid-tier plates/vests get you 90% of the benefit. My use case is mostly range days and occasional classes, plus I keep a carrier set up for emergencies. I’m not deploying or anything, but I don’t want to cheap out on something that’s supposed to keep you alive.
What I’m stuck on: weight vs comfort vs “real” protection vs price. I see premium options talking about lighter plates, better multi-hit, better coatings, more comfortable carriers, etc. But the price jump is huge.
For people who’ve worn armor for real training or work: is the extra cost noticeable in day-to-day use (heat, mobility, fatigue)? And how do you think about brand reputation, NIJ ratings, and all the marketing? Any practical buying checklist would help.
