I’ve been seeing more clips of dirt bikes being used in modern conflicts, and it got me wondering: are military motorcycles actually still relevant in a serious way, or are they mostly a niche/PR thing?
I grew up thinking “motorcycle = WWII messenger,” but now we’ve got drones, satellite comms, armored MRAPs, and everything tracked/wheeled. At the same time, a bike is cheap, fast, and can slip through places a truck can’t.
So in 2026 reality: where do military motorcycles still make sense (recon, courier, special forces, rear-area security, training)? And where are they basically a liability (survivability, noise, weather, fatigue)? Curious to hear from people who know history, doctrine, or have real experience with them.
